Big News! We have a One Year Old!! Wow. Hardest year of our lives to date. And also the most rewarding. Now that Julian is one, everything feels a little more stable, a little more predictable (slightly), and we’re all a little more rested. Sure, he eats everything on the floor, crashes into tables, and tries to dismantle my computer but at least he can hold a snack and crawl up and down the stairs on his own now. He can shake his head no, point to things, call our names, and get out his own toys from the cupboard. He’s a toddler now. A drunk-walking, milk guzzling, runny-nosed, squealing, happy, wonder-filled toddler. We did it!
Here are a few tid-bits about our September boys:
Desmond:
-Big changes in his attitude. He still melts down, still shows aggression occasionally, but it’s crazy how much it’s diminished.
– He started a new school! Well sort of. Blossoming Lotus Nursery School….same teacher, same kids, different location, and the first week was a breeze. He absolutely loves it.
-He’s peeing a ton in his bed. Like practically every night. Back to pull-ups at night now and hoping it’s just a phase.
– He’s starting to cut out his nap.
– He loves meat now. Of course, he’s a gourmand, so if it’s not perfect forget it.
-He will eat more oysters than you any day.
– He started writing letters all by himself toward end of month. Albeit backwards but still.
– He drew his first family portrait. Loves to draw all the time now and holds a pencil perfectly.
My personal favorite….Des quotes of the month!
On Age:
D- “Momma how old is Dada?”
Mom – “He’s 40.”
D – “Oh WOW! That’s really tall.”
On Hygiene:
“Can you help me wipe my nose? It’s really rusty.”
On extraterrestrials:
Mom- “Uncle Chris loves you so much!”
D- “Yes, and I love him so much too. But he says strange and funny things sometimes…but that’s ok. It’s because he’s from another planet.”
On Management:
“Look mama, here’s the deal…first we eat, then we go to the playground. Alright?”
Julian:
-He’s ONE YEAR OLD! 23lbs, and 31 inches tall. Almost off the charts.
– He is such a little happy boy. Just all smiles and delighted by the world.
– ‘Wassat?’ is his favorite thing to ask. Quickly followed by ‘SEE it.’ As in ‘let me hold it and shove it in my mouth.’
-He runs everywhere…walking is out.
-He’s totally weened!
-He has almost 12 teeth.
-He’s a slightly more picky eater than Des. Jules could subsist on pasta, cheese, and berries. And kale surprisingly. It could be a worse diet I suppose.
-He’s getting better at napping.
I must say, I look at our two healthy, happy, handsome fellows and give one great big sigh of relief that Justin and I get to spend our lives with them, grow with them, and learn with them. They have so much to teach us 🙂
