I am really glad August is over. Rarely do I wish for time to fly, but wow…this whole 8th and 9th month of pregnancy thing is just not cool. But in just a few days this baby is coming out whether he wants to or not and in a few weeks I will hopefully be giving piggyback rides again and possibly jogging with a double stroller. Not a glamorous goal, but it sounds like heaven to me. Fingers crossed!
Desmond’s last day at Ross Cottage Nursery School was last week. Everyone was pretty bummed, and Des definitely reacted to the mood around him but handled it alright. Michelle, his teacher, made him a book of pictures from his time there – it was such a sweet gesture. We spent the evening of his last day having dinner at Graham’s house which just made his whole month. I’m so, so glad to have gotten to be good friends with Graham’ mom, Courtney and her husband Steve is equally sweet. It it a friendship we’ll hold on to so that makes me, and Des, feel a lot better about all the changes.
He keeps changing so much each month – it’s like he went straight from being a tiny 2-year-old to a grown up 3-year-old in a matter of months. With the exception of being potty trained and dressing himself that is. Still not much interest in either one of those but I’m hoping the new school full of potty trained kids will help. He cracks us up constantly now with his funny way of talking – and I can’t really laugh in his face when it happens because he’s being so serious. Like when we told him to take a sip of water and swish it around in his mouth and he dutifully responded by holding the water in his puffed up cheeks and vigorously shaking his whole head. Whatever works right?
Or when he found an old piece of pretzel under the coffee table….
D: Mom? Is this Poopoo??
Me: Ew! I don’t know but hand it to me….
D: <Pops it in his mouth before I finish my sentence…starts chewing as I slow motion reach for his mouth> NOPE! It’s a pretzel.
Me: Oh. Well please don’t put old food in your mouth honey….
Or when he called Uncle Marc on Facetime to pepper him with questions about the inside of a car (what does a radiator do? what does the differential do?? and the disc brakes?) This wasn’t funny so much as it was entertaining…like Unlce, like nephew. He’s unbelievable fascinated by how trains, cars, trucks, trollies, and now airplanes work – like in a totally nerdy kind of way and I’m SO glad! Desmond’s attention span is pretty short when it comes to most everything else…getting him to say hello to someone on the phone, or sit and eat is difficult. But hand him a book about cars and he’ll be set for quite some time, and loaded with questions afterward too.
In other news, Justin and I got a couple of much needed dates in this month thanks to Dassance and Reed, and Garrett and Megan. We know our lives will never be the same with two kids so it meant the world to have a little time outside our house together. Of course for the most part we just talked about Des and the baby…isn’t that what all parent do though? We also splurged on tickets to the Outside Lands Festival in GG Park and saw some incredible music with Des…including Sir Paul! Des got to hear his Paul sing his NAME – how cool is that!?
We also got a fun filled evening with Grandma Judu this month – she had a layover in SF for a night and we went down to visit her at the Mariott by the airport, AKA Disney World for Des. He swam in the pool with Judu, gorged himself on cookies, crackers, and cheese in the executive lounge, watched planes take off and land from the swanky outdoor lounge, got showered with free toys from the staff… it was about as much fun as any of us have had in a hotel in a long time! He still talks about it to this day so I think another trip, at least to watch planes take off, is in order!
Desmond got some quality time in with his old buddy Lucie this month as well – Travis (my SWA/April Philips buddy) and his wife Lindsey came over with their girls (Elle and Lucie) for brunch one weekend, and we attended Elle’s b-day the next at their house. Lucie and Desie went to Ross Cottage together for quite a while so he was thrilled to see her again.
My last day at work was on the 15th…a much needed change. My back, hips, everything was suffering from sitting all day and I had started to get some minor contractions during the last week from all the driving and sitting. Those have luckily subsided, thank goodness. I’ve been taking it easy for the most part and even got to spend an afternoon with my two besties – Megan and Ali – having tea as a sort of baby send off celebration.
We feel almost fully prepped for baby now, thanks to the time off, and I’m as ready as I’ll ever be to welcome this new little guy into our life, our home, our crazy, crazy world. We can’t WAIT to meet him!
Here’s hoping all goes well with the birth…next month we’ll have a whole slew of new baby photos to flip through. Plus, Desmond starts his new school, and we’ll have lots and lots of family visiting as well. So much to report on this next month! Wish us luck…
