For comparison, here was our sweet One Year Old Desmond on his first Birthday:
And here he is, hair and all, on the morning of his Second birthday, as we get ready to fly home from Austin (Plane ride for your birthday! Best parents ever!!)
Physical Stats, etc.:
He’s impossible to weigh and measure accurately at the doctor’s office but he’s about 29lbs and 35″ tall now – and his head circumference is still in the 85th percentile….thanks to dada.
I took him to his first dentist appt last week and he did SO well, no crying at all. They mentioned he has some brown spots on his molars so we’ll need to keep that in check. They also said the thumb sucking isn’t a big deal until about 4 years old, so I’m praying he doesn’t take after his mother – I finally kicked the habit around 8 years old. Eesh.
He’s as wild as they get – seriously. I can’t contain him sometimes. Some of you may have seen a video of him at his second birthday party, squirming around while all the other kids sat nicely in a circle. It’s the rainy season now, so puddles are his absolute favorite!! Running in them, jumping in them, falling into them, drinking (eeeek!) from them – or trying to at least. It’s tiring to spend a day with this boy but you are never, ever bored!
Speech, Personality, etc.:
He speaks really well now…and Hallelujah – we can have conversations in the car now! There was a long stretch there where my two hour commute (1 with Des, 1 without) was pretty much just a solo show. I can imagine having a conversation with the back of someone’s head just isn’t all that exciting for a 2 year old. But he’s cool with it now and we get into some pretty deep stuff, we tell stories to each other, and we sing A LOT. Here’s a snippet from one we had last week, which went on and on for quite some time:
Mama: “Des do flowers grow in the sky?”
Des: “Nooooooo mama. Flowers grow in the ground.”
Mama: “Oh right! Ok. So Des, do cars drive on the water?”
Des: ” Noooooo mama! Cars drive on the road……Boats drive in the water.”
Mama: “Oh right right, you’re on it.”
One his favorite things to say is “LOOK at that (tractor, doggie, birdie, etc.)” very enthusiastically. I think he may be imitating his parents…
At his point, these are just a few of his favorite things:
Trucks, dump trucks, flat bed trucks, garbage trucks, recycling trucks, um, anything that ends in trucks.
Trains
Construction Vehicles (steam rollers, graders, excavators, pipe layers – and yes, he knows all of these words)
Cars Cars Cars
Gorillas
Cooking in his new play kitchen, or playing with water in the sink
Doggies
Bikes!
Snuggle time under the covers with mom and dad.
Reading books on the couch with a blanket and some warm milk.
Having us sing goodnight to him
Hugs
Trips to the library
Playing his musical instruments
Drawing Circles perfectly!
Happy happy 2nd Birthday to our sweet snuggly boy! We love you SO MUCH!
